To his credit, Lucas didn't invented the idea for Howard the Duck. It was a Marvel comic from the '70s...and something of an acclaimed one at that. :)

Just wanted to say thanks for the live coverage of the Oscars. I had to work during the show and had it on in the background. It was great to have the Walkingtaco coverage of anything I missed while not paying attention to the tv. Great job and thanks again!

We just finished this movie, and I have to admit I was a little caught up in the emotion of it all at first. The football in this movie is raw, intense, and hard-hitting on a couple of levels, but I do wish it had showed a little more characterization. I knew I was supposed to cheer for Mojo...I just wasn't really sure who was on the team. In lieu of characterization there were some heartstring-tugging scenes like Boobie realizing he can not play football and of course the many arguments between Billingsley and his dad. Overall it was a pretty good movie though.

We watched this movie last night, and I think you're dead on about Travolta. It's like he's out to prove to the world that he can still pull off the hard-edge foul-mouth criminal he has played a few times in his younger days. Talk about overacting. I liked Denzel, though: he's the quintessential Everyman, and while the role is certainly not challenging for him, he does turn in a solid (but uninspired) performance. I did think the chases were a laughable attempt at throwing in some (gratuitous) action. The car wrecks did nothing to further the story and were only there to appease the Michael Bay fans who had stepped into the wrong theatre while trying to find Transformers 2.

I do plan on reviewing the other two, but I'm not sure when I will get to it. I do remember X2 being a lot more of a big-budget action flick, whereas X-Men was a lot of exposition and character building. Definitely more low-key as you said. Singer left the franchise after the second movie, which is probably why the third isn't as good, but still worth watching.

"X-Men" is the most interesting movie of the series. While I don't think it's as big and fun as "X2", X1 is actually very low-key and has a very slight approach to a big-budget comic book movie that still retains all the necessary visual effects and action. I'm actually a big fan. Do you plan on reviewing the other X-Men films?

"There’s nothing Jason Bourne or cartoonish about the action here"
That's the best statement about this film that I could have hoped for. I'm tired of the hyperkinetic editing spawned by the Bourne films, and it's nice to hear that Edge of Darkness trades kung-fu for atmosphere. I enjoyed Ransom a great deal, and if Edge of Darkness has half the mood and suspense of that movie, then I'm sold.

<a href="#comment-325" rel="nofollow">@Andy Ringsmuth</a>
I agree. I enjoyed the movie, to a point. If it had ended like any other romantic comedy, with Clooney and Farmiga in love, I would have hated it, but it would have had a point. As is, I spent two hours watching a man go from blissfully happy to completely miserable for no good reason. What was the point? I don't expect a Disney-esque ending to every film, but there was no good reason for me to watch Up in the Air.

<a href="#comment-340" rel="nofollow">@MJV</a>
I have to agree. This one is a guilty pleasure. It's an extreme level of guilt, and it's in no way shape or form a good movie, but it still makes me smile and remember younger, happier times. Also, I'm really disappointed that "What's your boggle?" never caught on. ;)

You know, if I had seen DM when I was younger it might have some nostalgia value for me too. I actually enjoy the Super Mario Bros. movie for precisely that reason. :) And thanks, movie seal, I'm glad you liked the review. I've got another stinker coming up, too: Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Ugh.
