Interesting review (although I still don't like the film). It bothers me how ignorant the entire country is about the medieval and the relationships between Christianity and Islam. I remember back in high school arguing with one of my Muslim friends over a lot of these issues, like the cause the Crusades, the history of Islam and the life of Muhammad. I had these things called "sources" and "facts" on my side, he had the ability to claim to be a Muslim. Everyone believed him. Man I hated high school. Still, while I don't see KoH as being much of a step forward, if it is a step in any direction at all, I do appreciate your opinions.

I like how your take on the movie was also an essay on Christianity and Islam and how they have been viewed historically. I feel like I just left a Medieval History lecture, actually. :) It seems as though Hollywood is loathe to credit Christians with being a positive force for change in the world, much less people's lives, and instead focuses on distorting Christianity, showing Christians as weak and duplicitous, and Christian church leaders as hypocritical fools. It's nice to know Kingdom of Heaven at least took the respectful route, if still not altogether historically accurate.

I'm curious to know if you watched the theatrical cut (which I found a bit disappointing) or Ridley Scott's extended director's cut which I've heard is a much better watch. Actually, the Kingdom of Heaven extended cut it the first blu-ray I purchased and I still have yet to sit down and watch it.

Someone is becoming quite the publisher. Nice site! Very clean. Sharp images. Good use of content aggregation. And a simple, yet punchy, masthead and top navigation bar.
